Story by Art Department / October 22, 2024
Art manifests in various forms, such as music, sculpture, paintings, and photography. Debb Rugg Warren, inspired by the colors of Charleston’s local landscape, passionately expresses herself through painting. Despite differing professions, she shares a common bond with the custom builder duo April and Allen Coleman of Coleman Builders, LLC, who love artistic expression. While Debb’s medium is painting, the Colemans express their art through the craft of custom home building.
As long-time friends, homeowners Debb and Lonnie Warren knew just who to contact when they decided to permanently plant their roots in Mount Pleasant.
With longevity and livability in mind for their forever home, Coleman Builders and architect Phil Clarke crafted a space that would support the Warrens as they age in place.
This 3,750 square foot custom home boasts 4 bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms. It showcases an open floor plan with a first-floor primary suite, an art studio dedicated to Debb, a bourbon room, a built-in bar, and a spacious scullery that connects to an outdoor grilling area.
In the living room, a fireplace was installed as a focal point and with unique black cement tile, the design is a nod to the local artist’s eclectic style.
The wet bar, complete with a temperature-controlled beverage cooler integrated into the cabinets is just off the living area.
Vibrancy and charm characterize the scullery situated directly behind the kitchen’s range wall.
Exposed decorative shelving showcases a variety of unique knick-knacks. April beams, “They took a bold risk, and it paid off beautifully! This room is absolutely stunning!”
In the dining room, April opted to unify the color on the walls, ceiling, and trim: matte black. This bold choice creates a striking contrast with the adjacent kitchen, enhancing the home’s character.
This home celebrates art and innovation, designed for lifelong usability.
