Charleston Home + Design Announces New Ownership

Charleston Home + Design, a leading local publication dedicated to the people, projects, and ideas shaping Charleston’s home and design community, has entered a new chapter under the full ownership of former Partner and Chief Executive Officer Courtney Kutzman and the appointment of Josh Walker as Editor.

Kutzman’s acquisition of Charleston Home + Design marks a new era of opportunity for the publication, which has served the region since 1999. She joined the magazine as Partner and CEO in 2025, bringing nearly two decades of experience in publishing, advertising, and media consulting.

With the retirement of Timothy Barkley, who served as Publisher and owned the publication since its inception, Kutzman plans to build on Charleston Home + Design’s established legacy while elevating its editorial experience and expanding its reach and capabilities.

“I am honored to continue telling the stories of the inspiring professionals in our region and showcasing the beautiful work they do,” Kutzman said. “This is one of the most exciting steps I’ve ever taken professionally, and I feel privileged to have such a talented team to work with and learn from.”

As part of that evolution, Charleston Home + Design has named Josh Walker as Editor. Walker brings more than a decade of experience in editorial storytelling, creative direction, photography, design, and communications.

“I have admired Charleston Home + Design since I moved here seven years ago, and I look forward to being a convener in this role,” said Walker. “Charleston has an incredible community of creative people, skilled professionals, and homeowners with great ideas, and I want Charleston Home + Design to be the place where those people and ideas come together.”

Kutzman and Walker plan to build on Charleston Home + Design’s established presence in the Lowcountry by strengthening its editorial storytelling, providing homeowners with practical expertise from local professionals, expanding digital content, telling deeper stories about the designers, builders, suppliers, and homeowners shaping the region’s built environment, as well as launching a new series of events called Charleston Gatherings.

“Our quarterly launch events have been so well received; these exciting new events will be designed to continue bringing the community and home professionals together in beautiful places that represent Charleston and the Lowcountry region,” Kutzman said.
