With large islands now serving as central dining locations, having the right bar stools for your family and guests is essential.

Here are three tips for choosing the right type of bar stools for your kitchen:

Determine Height

Standard countertops measure 43-39 inches high and standard bars are 42 inches high. Be sure to leave about 10 inches between the bottom of the tabletop or countertop so it slides neatly underneath when not needed.

Consider Function and Comfort

While the look of a low-back bar stool or countertop height chair might be a look you love, they aren’t the most supportive or comfortable. Consider purchasing stools with a full back, arms, and performance fabric upholstery.

Add Your Personal Style

Once the height and comfort level of your future seating is determined, pick whatever style your heart desires! Function must follow form when it comes to the seating in your kitchen. Bar stools offer a creative opportunity to mix pattern, texture, and material for a more visually dynamic kitchen space to prep and dine in.
