The Board of Architectural Review (BAR), highly regulates all historic structures based on preservation. What does this mean for historic homeowners? Any design updates, especially paint colors, must be approved before a project takes place. The good news? Sherwin-Williams worked with a group of dedicated preservationists to create the Historic Charleston CollectionTM, a 48-color palette approved by the BAR.

The collection of vibrant paint colors is meant to emphasize historic architecture and enhance new builds in a way that nods to the past with design relevance. Different paint finishes like semi or high-gloss can help enhance woodwork and trim, especially in a historic home painted in colors relevant to its nature.
