Set Your Goals

Ask yourself who will use this bathroom and how they might be best suited for upgrades. For aging homeowners, consider a tub-to-shower conversion for easy access.

Set A Budget

Bathroom design professionals recommend planning to split your budget in two, no matter the figure. Half of your budget goes to product, and the other half goes to installation. In the best-case scenario, you’re left with a little extra cash for fun accessories.

Shop Suppliers

Choose the right team of contractors and designers for the levels of work you are willing to put in. If you want to be hands-off,  spend time picking the brains of your future bath specialists to ensure they can achieve your goals within your budget and timeframe.

Consider Storage

The size of your existing bathroom and whether or not you will be adding square footage is a huge consideration when identifying storage space in your remodel. If a linen closet isn’t an option, a custom vanity with cabinets and drawers is a must-have. If you do have the luxury of spare linen storage, use this as an opportunity to go bold with your vanity.

Select Materials

A bathroom remodel’s considerations are similar to that of a kitchen remodel. Humidity control, ease of cleaning, and material durability are at the forefront of both of these projects because let’s face it, you don’t want to swap your bathroom countertops again after this.

Choose Layout

Consider the existing placement of the windows and doors in your bathroom before reconfiguring the layout. If you can’t move anything around, a freestanding tub makes a great focal point in a wet-room-style shower.

Find the Right Lighting

Wall-mounted lighting provides excellent task visibility in a bathroom while a striking chandelier above a soaking tub adds a statement all on its own.

Choose Taps and Hardware

Whether you mix fixture finishes or stick with one for a more uniform look, faucets, drains, and other functional bathroom elements like cabinet hardware play a huge role in defining a new bathroom design.

Incorporate Decorative Elements

Vanity mirrors made of natural materials create a decorative contrast in a wallpaper-wrapped bathroom. Dress it up even more with a vase and Turkish handtowel.

Select Your Flooring

Whether hardwood, vinyl plank, or tile, your bathroom’s flooring should be slip-resistant and easy to clean. Consider a dark tile in bathrooms with traditional white subway tile shower walls for contrast.
