What initially sparked this primary bedroom overhaul was what it had always been missing: closet space. Of course, built-ins are what the mind might think of next, except this couple was certain it might end up looking like a set of cabinets. Luckily, their trusted interior designer, Terri Baldwin of CHD Interiors, explained how she might make their wants and needs align with a custom-built solution. Terri’s apt renaming of them, “armoires,” made this project one that the homeowners could look forward to with their traditional sensibilities.
“We asked David Rust of Artis Construction to collaborate with our team to handle all the construction-related aspects of the project. They also had skilled cabinet makers and finish carpenters who dealt with the construction of the armoires. It was beautifully done.”
It was from here that the rest of the bedroom design would unfold.
“The clients had two antique furniture pieces as well as some French wall panels. We incorporated all of it into the design to maintain and update their traditional aesthetic. We carried the colors through the rug, bed linens, and onto the window treatments to marry the new furniture with the existing decor. It was due to the soft color palette that this space balances fresh and new with timeworn and antique elements.”
