Old Charleston Painting Company earned its reputation as the most-awarded painting company in Charleston through hard work and excellence. Their experience with projects in The Ponds community and their certification to handle lead-based materials made them the top choice to restore this historically significant home.

In the 1830’s, the current Farmhouse aka Club House at The Ponds in Summerville, was built as the third home of John Christopher Gottfried Schulz a German Protestant coming to join brethren already settled here. The property later became the main center for amenities in the residential neighborhood, The Ponds.

“This project was a true labor of love. It was important to give the community something that they deserve and will be able to enjoy for many years to come,” expresses Bethanny King.

Given the building’s age, these paint experts anticipated the need to test for lead. Fortunately, the results came back negative. However, they proceeded with the same caution as if the test had been positive, recognizing the risks of lead exposure.

They cleaned the Farmhouse, revealing the deterioration of the existing paint and the poor condition of the wood. Old Charleston Painting Company removed the old paint using a HEPA vacuum system to capture dust and debris from sanding. They also removed all rotten wood and addressed any potentially compromised wood.

The color consultant at Old Charleston Painting Company collaborated with community members at The Ponds to create a custom palette.

“The Ponds Community is beyond excited to have such an important part of history, their history, restored respectfully back to its original colors,” explains Bradford King. This project exemplifies Old Charleston Painting Company’s commitment to safety and detail.
