Although every room in this custom home has its own unique character, it reads as a cohesive whole. Designer Shay Patterson of Riverside Designers began at the architectural planning stage with Vinyet Architects and the builders of Lowcountry Premier Custom Homes. She then guided the project through finish selections, furnishings, fabrics, wallpaper, and installation. The brief called for expressive rooms that reflect the homeowners’ art collection and heirloom pieces while honoring a traditional framework.
The solution was a disciplined palette, measured repetition of materials, and furniture plans that prioritize function and flow.

Shay describes the home’s design intention as layered and livable. Traditional bones anchor the house, while coastal notes, playful patterns, and a hint of retro keep the mood fresh and inviting. Color is purposeful rather than loud, surfacing in unexpected moments that tie spaces together without repeating them. Texture carries equal weight. Natural fibers, tailored upholstery, and tactile wallcoverings add depth and warmth.
