Story by Micaela Arnett / October 2, 2024

Homeowners with a penchant for urban art and modern design hired Mary Welch Fox Designs for her edgy yet practical approach to everyday interiors. Their shared love for modern art and refined furniture became the project’s foundation.

“They wanted their home to be different—something modern and urban that still embraced the coastal setting,” Mary Welch explains. The resulting interiors reflect a deft balance of contrast and cohesion, with geometric patterns and clean lines playing against plush textures and organic forms.

The home’s design offers multiple sight lines from the kitchen, creating a dynamic and engaging visual experience that ties the different spaces together.

“There’s a lot of juxtaposition in this design. Take the oversized sofa, for example; we paired it with smaller chairs upholstered in subtle patterns to play with the sense of space without overcrowding the room,” she says.

Her approach involves creating various seating areas that invite relaxation and conversation, ensuring that every room is as functional as stylish. Modern, urban edge softened by cozy touches is a perfect example of how a home can be both an artful expression and a comfortable haven when led by a daring designer.
