Story by Micaela Arnett / August 29, 2024
Each year, Southern Living builds a home from the ground up to showcase the latest trends in home design. Their 2024 Idea House on Johns Island draws inspiration from its island locale with contributions from local home professionals and artists. Open to the public for tours from August 23 to December 22, a portion of ticket proceeds will benefit Communities In Schools of SC, Sea Island Habitat for Humanity, and the Emmanuel Nine Memorial Foundation.
“We wanted this house to reflect its place and to feel like Charleston—as if it had always been here. The architecture was a challenge but we have something really special here now that we’ve done the right thing by caring for these magnificent trees. It feels like this house grew up with them, which is a real feat. It was really important for us to get this right, and we did.”
